ARP 2009 Information

The Fifth Annual Art of Record Production Conference

hosted by the Division of Music and Sound,

ATRiuM, University of Glamorgan, Cardiff, S. Wales

on November 13th – 15th 2009.

ImageUK record producer, songwriter, DJ and television producer, Pete Waterman OBE has been confirmed as the keynote speaker at the fifth Art of Record Production conference to be hosted by the Division of Music and Sound at ATRiuM, University of Glamorgan, Cardiff, S. Wales on November 13th – 15th 2009. Producing and writing over 200 hit songs in 25 years, including artists such as Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Steps, Westlife, Bananarama, Mel & Kim and Cliff Richard, it doesn’t seem an overstatement to say, as the PWE website proclaims, that “Pete Waterman is pop”. Other guest speakers (subject to final confirmation) include Hank Shocklee (The Bomb Squad, Public Enemy), Phil Harding (Vice Chairman of the Music Producers Guild - MPG - and chaiman of Joint Audio Media Education Services - JAMES formed by the MPG and APRS, Phil's engineering and production credits include The Clash, SAW /PWL, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, East 17, Boyzone), Haydn Bendall (ex chief engineer at Abbey Road Studios), Mike Howlett (outgoing chairman of the MPG, producer of Flock of Seagulls, Joan Armatrading, Martha and the Muffins and bass player with Gong), Fran Nevrka (Chairman of PPL), Ted Fletcher (Ted Fletcher Pro / Joe Meek Audio, airSOUND spatial audio), Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Catatonia, Bullet For My Valentine, Super Furry Animals) and Charlie Francis (REM, Robyn Hitchcock).
Academic contributors will include Professor Nicholas Cook discussing the forthcoming Cambridge Companion to Recorded Music and Professor Allan Moore  (author of Analyzing Popular Music and Rock: The Primary Text).

Listening and workshop sessions will be announced in due course. The Division of Music and Sound at ATRiuM, University of Glamorgan will also be organising other events to coincide with the ARP09 conference including the official opening of their Gus Dudgeon Studio at ATRiuM with it’s newly restored, vintage MCI mixing console.
