Katia and I would like to congratulate Mike Howlett (Chairman of the Music Producers Guild), Robin Millar (Patron of the MPG) and the MPG Awards team for having successfully encouraged the reinstatement of the Brit Award for Best Producer after a 10 year absence and successfully launched the inaugural MPG Music Producers Award at the Café de Paris on Thursday 12th Feb. BBC news reported "The final award, for Producer Of The Year was awarded by the Grammy Award winning Welsh songstress , Duffy, to her Rockferry producer, Bernard Butler. This award was special, because for the first time in ten years, the Producer Of The Year Brit Award was revived and given to its victor."

The awards also included the presentation of the Joe Meek Award for Innovation in Production to Brian Eno. MPG chairman Mike Howlett said: "We hope this event will become an integral part of the music industry calendar for many years to come". He went on to explain that the awards were aiming to raise the profile of "the skills and talent involved in making great records. Audio professionals are positioned at the very heart of the music industry - we make the content that is the industry's product - and it is important that we are acknowledged as vital and key contributors."

The Art of Record Production Conference and Journal has enjoyed a hugely beneficial collaborative relationship with the Music Producers Guild in recent years and several of the producers from the Guild have given generously of their time to greatly enrich the Art of Record Production conferences and website. The MPG has done both the industry and the academic world of music technology a great service by establishing these awards and re-establishing the Brit Award. Everyone involved in the MPG Awards Team must be very proud and excited and we look forward to this event's continuing success in the years ahead.

Best wishes,

Simon Zagorski-Thomas. (Director of the Art of Record Production Conference, Co-Editor of the Journal on the Art of Record Production)

Katia Isakoff. (Co-Editor of the Journal on the Art of Record Production, Director of the MPG)
