Steve Albini will be the keynote speaker at the
sixth Art of Record Production conference to be hosted by Justin Morey and Bob
Davis at Leeds Metropolitan University on December 3rd – 5th
2010. Albini has recorded over a thousand albums with over a thousand bands,
including The Pixies, Nirvana and P. J. Harvey and is well known for refusing
to describe himself as a ‘record producer’. He is also renowned for his
forthright opinions on the superiority of analogue recording technology, his
preference for group recordings over overdubbing, his disdain for the major
labels and his ethical stance on flat fee payments rather than ‘points’ for his
recording work. The deadline for the receipt of abstracts for inclusion in the
conference is Tues June 1st 2010.
Paul Miller (a.k.a. DJ Spooky) as well
as being an artist, DJ and producer, has collaborated with artists such
as Chuck D, Dave Lombardo of Slayer and Yoko Ono. He is also the author
of Rhythm Science and editor of Sound Unbound which are both published by MIT Press.
Other Speakers include:
Paul Theberge (author of Any Sound You Can Imagine) Phil Harding (The Clash, PWL, Kylie, East 17, Chairman of JAMES, Vice-Chairman of the MPG, and author of PWL - From The Factory Floor ) Philip Tagg (author of Kojak: 50 Seconds Of Television Music, Fernando The Flute, Ten Little Tunes and Everyday Tonality) Steve Parker (The Fall, Aretha Franklin and The Rolling Stones) James Kenosha (Grammatics, Lone Wolf and Pulled Apart By Horses) Richard Formby (Wild Bests) Marco Pasquariello (Snap! The
conference will be held at Leeds Metropolitan University's Headingley
Campus in north west Leeds, an environment that is appreciated by both
students and staff for its vast spaces and relaxing atmosphere.
All
