The Association For The Study Of The Art Of Record Production

The aim of ASARP is to provide an international and interdisciplinary organization for promoting the study of record production. The term ‘record production’ is to be interpreted in the broadest sense as the production of recorded music.

You can now join ASARP (the Association for the Study of the Art of Record Production) by paying the annual subscription.

You can read the proposed constitution (to be ratified by the new membership) here

You need to be logged in to read the constitution and to contribute to the discussion forum

The membership numbers of the Association for the Study of the Art of Record Production are creeping slowly upwards and I'm hoping to encourage a few more of you to join this weekend by starting some discussion about the topics below - and putting the discussion forum on a members only part of the website  - you have to log in to contribute. For those of you who would like to, you can join here. Once you've joined, your status on the website will change to 'Author' and you can start helping to shape the future of ASARP, the conference and the journal.

These are the questions / discussion topics that you will find on the forum:

·      Should there be a physical AGM at the conference or a virtual one on the website? What form should it take?

·      How should the board be elected? A single election of the whole board every two or three years? A 3 year term and 1/3 of the membership are up for re-election each year? Should all the board members be elected e.g. including the journal editors?

·      How should the journal editors be selected? 2 editors and 2 assistants? What about an editorial board and 2nd readers?

·      Should the journal continue to be free and on-line? Should we look for a publisher for a print version? If it continues on-line should it be open access, subscription based or membership only?

·      How should the conference hosts be selected? Should it continue as annual or become biennial (alternating with IASPM and stretching to a week?). What are we going to do about the 2010 conference?

·      What should the subscription income be spent on? What should the subscription rate(s) be?

·      Administrative officers such as editorial assistants and a Webmaster: should we be paying something for this or looking for volunteers?

·      What other activities should we be engaged in? Book reviews, a student section on the website to encourage new researchers, product reviews, interviews with producers and other professionals?

·      How should we be positioning ourselves in relation to industry organisations such as NARAS and the MPG? Should there be industry membership or affiliated association / company status?

·      How can we build participation in Asia, Africa and South America (and the under-represented parts of Europe)?

·      What else should we be discussing?

Please help to get the ball rolling with these discussion threads

Best wishes

Simon
