Marcella Araica is an American recording and mixing engineer from Miami, Florida. Her foray into music production began in high school, where she began to spend time with aspiring hip-hop artists and taught herself how to make beats using Cakewalk software. After school, she completed an audio engineering program at Full Sail university and graduated at the top of her class. Marcella’s professional career began in March 2002, when she landed a position at Hit Factory studios. She was mentored by engineers Jimmy Douglass and Demacio Castellon during her time there, assisting on sessions until she became a full-time engineer at the studio. In 2008, Araica teamed up with record producer Danja to launch an independent music label called N.A.R.S. (New Age Rock Stars) Records. In 2014, the pair opened a state-of-the-art facility in Miami called Dream Asylum studios. Throughout her exciting career, Marcella Araica has built an impressive list of credits that includes Jennifer Lopez, Chris Brown, Monica, Meek Mill, M.I.A., Jason Derulo, Kid Ink, Missy Elliot, Madonna, Snoop Dogg, Nelly Furtado, Mariah Carey, Timbaland, Christina Aguilera, Wyclef Jean, Usher, Keri Hilson, and Pink.
Terri Winston Founder & Executive Director. Terri founded WAM in 2003 while she was a tenured Professor and Director of the Sound Recording Arts Program at City College of San Francisco from 2001-2011. Her love of music and the recording arts spans 30 years as a songwriter, composer, recording engineer, and producer. Winston was signed as a recording artist, engineer and producer by Polygram and BMG, and has shared the stage with such acts as P.J. Harvey, Pixies, Throwing Muses, Flaming Lips, Fugazi, Cake, and Third Eye Blind. She has collaborated with Lenny Kaye of the Patti Smith Group and Greg Hawkes of The Cars and worked as a recording artist and producer for MainMan whose roster also included David Bowie, John Mellencamp, Lou Reed, & Iggy Pop. Winston has composed and produced theme music for KRON-TV's "First Cut" series, Banana Republic and films that have shown on BRAVO's Independent Film Channel, French Television's Cine Cinemas and major festivals all over the world. She has received an ASCAP songwriting award, Boston Music Award and Bay Area Music Award, is a voting member of the Recording Academy (The GRAMMY's) and is active in the Producers and Engineers wing. Winston has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.
Maureen Droney Vice President of the Recording Academy®Producers & Engineers Wing®(P&E Wing) began her career in the music industry as an assistant engineer at the legendary Automatt Studios in San Francisco. She went on to engineer for George Benson, Whitney Houston, John Hiatt, Tower of Power, and Santana, among many others, including Santana’s GRAMMY-winning album Blues For Salvador. She holds a degree in Broadcast Communication Arts from California State University, San Francisco, and has taught seminars in the theory and practice of audio engineering for ABC Television and Radio, CBS Television, and Deluxe Film Labs Post Production. Prior to joining The Recording Academy, Droney was director of the Kiva Family of Studios, which included the House of Blues Studios in Los Angeles and Memphis and East Iris Studios in Nashville. She was the Los Angeles Editor of Mix magazine for more than 10 years and is the author of Mix Masters, a popular recording textbook published by Berklee Press. A regular contributor to numerous audio and performing arts publications, she is co-author of the just-released Hal Leonard publication The Pensado Papers.
Cookie Marenco Producer, Engineer, Composer, Visionary Before digital audio, CDs, MP3's, the internet and email, Cookie Marenco founded OTR Studios, with a dream to record acoustic musicians in their most natural settings. Now, OTR is the oldest owner founded studio still in operation in the Bay Area with a reputation for the highest quality work, incredible musical performances and professional style. With a span of more than 20 years in the industry, her experience with analog, vinyl, digital, live recording, and working with thousands of musicians on more than 400 recordings brings a rich history to every session or consultation. As OTR's main producer and chief engineer, Marenco oversees all recordings of her staff to ensure the same quality and professionalism throughout. Marenco is sought out by many manufacturers to beta test new products including Tascam, KRK, Millennia, NHT, Goddess Labs, Universal Audio, etc. Now a writer and video instructor for EQ magazine, Marenco tests and designs new products, creates educational videos using OTR as a base of operation. Interns come worldwide to study in OTR's ongoing learning program for those serious about a career in the music industry.
Richard James Burgess has produced many gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums. He authored The Art of Record Production in 1997 and the second, third and fourth editions now entitled The Art of Music Production: The Theory and Practice, 4th edition (Oxford University Press). Burgess has been a major label recording artist and composer with hit records in his own right; was a studio musician of note, and has worked internationally for most major labels as a producer, engineer, re-mixer and manager of artists and producers. He is known for his pioneering work with synthesizers, computers, and sampling and as an inventor of the SDSV drum synthesizer. Educated at Berklee College of Music, Boston, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and The University of South Wales, he played with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (U.K.) and won Music Week, British Arts Council, Park Lane Group, and Greater London Arts Association awards. He currently works at Smithsonian Folkways Recordings in Washington DC, where he was co-producer, co-executive producer and project director for Jazz: The Smithsonian Anthology, a seven year project chronicling more than a century of jazz.
